Journey to Her Big Break
Lindsey Stirling is a violinist who just wanted her music to be heard, and in time she did just that through hard work and amazing quality content on YouTube. At the age of 5, Lindsey began to study the violin after being influenced by the classical music records played by her father. She took private lessons for 12 years. When she was 16, she joined a rock band in Mesquite High School with four friends called "Stomp on Melvin".
At the age of 23, in 2010 Lindsey was a quarter-finalist on a season of America's Got Talent. Her unique twist on her style of music had gotten her the name "hip hop violinist". It was all good and fun in the beginning, but after she attempted to risk dancing in her quarter-final performance, Lindsey got negative comments from all the judges. She was devastated at the results, but wasn't going to let a television show stop her from following her dreams.
Lindsey turned to YouTube to showcase her unique style of performance, and made her own channel ‘LindseyStomp’. Cinematographer Devin Graham contacted her in hopes of making a YouTube video together. The video boosted Stirling's popularity, and she began making music videos for her YouTube channel regularly. Devin Graham met Lindsey at a time when she was a struggling, unknown artist who really wanted to share her music with the world. He saw special talent in Lindsey and spent countless hours working on music video ideas to post on YouTube.
During 2011, Lindsey's channel had quickly gained popularity and has over 2.2 million subscribers. Because of Lindsey's growth and popularity from her fanbase on YouTube, Lindsey had the privilege of going on tour for the first time in 2012. Lindsey was very excited to say the least.
A lot of people have told Lindsey along the way that her style of music is unmarketable, yet Lindsey never gave up as a violinist because she learned to stay true to herself. Her confidence is as strong as ever and she has wonderful people in her life to thank because of it.
